The Burnham Health Promotion Trust

Communication Projects

Information Provision - much of the Trust's work is concerned with providing people with the means to make informed decisions relating to their health and well-being. The Trust works closely with other local organisations in order to provide people with information that is as accurate and comprehensive as possible. Here are some examples:

This website - which started in 2002 and is continually growing. From the outset the development and upkeep of this website has been supported by the  Rotary Club of Burnham Beeches.

Burnham Health Promotion Trust News

A four page pull-out section appears in alternate issues of Burnham Community Association's community magazine, "Round and About" (December / January, April / May and August / September issues). It includes health related articles, details of new services and regular reports from groups such as the Burnham Access Group and the Carers Support Group.

Burnham Area Access Group
-
The Trust is actively involved with this group and assisted with the financing and production of the first edition of  Burnham Area Access Directory in 2001 and provided much information for the revised and extended 2003 and 2005 editions. Printed copies of the Directory are available from various points around the village including the Library, Health Centre and Burnham Advice and Information Centre.
There is a quick link to the 2005 Directory from this website.

"Get Out this Summer"  - In 2003 the Trust produced a booklet with details of many local holiday activities which was widely distributed through local schools and was also available on this website.

Keeping Burnham Informed - In addition to the development of this website, Burnham Health Promotion Trust is working closely with existing community groups, including Burnham Community Association, to extend and improve information that is available to all members of the community . A shared database of community information is being developed which will be available on this website. Representatives of community groups are asked to contact Shirley Shaw, Senior Project Worker, with current contact details for their organisation or to call into Burnham Advice and Information Centre, Burnham Park Hall to collect an update form.

Publicity at local events - BHPT stalls at village events such as Donkey Derby, Burnham Carnival etc

Consultations and Partnership Working - As an active local charity, BHPT has itself initiated a number of surveys, as well as always being keen to participate in local consultations and forums as the following examples indicate:

Sex Education Survey - In the Autumn term 2005 the Trust undertook a questionnaire survey of students in Years 8 to 11 at Burnham Grammar School and Burnham Upper School.  A summary of the findings of this survey will be available here soon.

Recreational Survey - In July  2002 the Trust undertook a questionnaire survey of the recreational facilities of Burnham. Nearly 400 children aged 8 - 15 took part from three schools: St Peters C of E School, Lent Rise Combined School, and Burnham Upper School. The results of the survey based on 376 completed questionnaires have been published  and may be viewed in full here. Following on from the survey, in June 2003, the Trust organised a "Keep Our Park Clean Campaign"
