Local Councils

Local Councils are responsible for providing a wide range of services to residents. There are three levels of local government in Buckinghamshire (County, District and Parish or Town Council).  Each level operates through independently elected Councils and has particular  areas of responsibility.  However the different levels work closely together and many areas of their work overlap.

Buckinghamshire County Council has responsibility for providing a number of services including Education, Highways, Libraries, Social Care and Trading Standards.  

Services provided by District Councils  include car parks, community safety, concessionary fares schemes, transport, environmental health, housing, leisure and arts, local planning, refuse collection, and street cleaning. 

Parish or Town Councils are the most local level of government in England. Their powers and responsibilities vary but may include responsibility for such things as allotments, bus shelters, community centres, litter bins, open spaces, street lighting, etc
