Transport to hospital
In certain circumstances it may be possible to arrange for an ambulance or the hospital car service to take you to hospital for outpatient appointments. At the time of making your hospital appointment ask either the outpatient staff at the hospital or the receptionist at your local surgery if you are eligible.
If this cannot be arranged and you have no other means of getting to hospital, Burnham Good Neighbour Scheme may be able to help. This scheme is run by volunteer drivers in private cars and passengers generally make a donation towards the costs. For more information about the scheme or to book a journey contact the Co-ordinator on 01628 666453.
People on low incomes may be entitled to help with the costs of travelling to hospital. Those in receipt of Income Support or income based Jobseeker’s Allowance are eligible for help with the cost of fares or petrol when attending hospital as an inpatient or outpatient. Other people on low incomes may be able to get help through the NHS Low Income Scheme. For more information contact local Benefits Agency.
